The backstory for Afterfall really is intriguing and could have lent itself to any number of interesting stories, especially since the game itself is based in Poland, a central area for this conflict. It was eventually broken by a nuclear exchange that caused most of humanity to head below the surface of the earth.
What followed was a Cold War much different than the one we remember. The Axis powers created an atomic bomb before the Allies did, which enabled them to reach an armistice rather than surrendering. In the Afterfall universe, World War II ended much differently than it did in the real world. While Afterfall: Insanity doubtless had lofty ideals, it falls short of doing anything that hasn’t been done a dozen times before. I'll be happy to read and reply to responses. These days, an action game needs to do something unique or memorable to stand out amongst the many, many options available for purchase.
Perhaps just consider it next time you play a game like Afterfall InSanity.Īpologies for grammar/formatting issues. I can see that being hard to do with games like Bad Rats, or that biker game that everyone makes fun of. Maybe you can one day do what I did and appreciate what's there rather than criticizing. I just thought it'd be fun to share a little thing I had with a crappy game, that I'm hoping to transfer to other crappy games in my library. I don't know exactly what I want you to walk away with from this post. But then when you start appreciating the little parts of the game, it becomes difficult to bash it, because you've enjoyed your time with it! But when I went to show it to one of them, expecting to be laughing our merry way, I had a moment of "Huh.It's kind of hard to make fun of." I mean, yeah we can take a look at the stamina system, and the combat animations, of course. Now, outside of playing the game, I would be bashing it to my friends, of course, because it's fun to make fun (especially of a game). I forced myself to stop thinking about it critically, and instead immersed myself in what they wanted me to. The game that gets you invested when you watch a guy shoot himself, or when your love is taken away from you (no matter how cheesy it is). So I did this I pictured what the developers wanted me to get out of this game, what they intended, and played that game. I decided that since I was commiting to completing it, I have to enjoy it or else it won't seem like it was worth it. The only reason I continued playing was because I've started a challenge to complete my Steam Backlog.īut then I went through some sort of change of mind. Instead, you get characters that sound like they were forced to act, and a game that you find yourself dreading. If AAA devs had their hands on this, it could've been critially acclaimed. You see, this is a game that had a good concept but was not executed the way it deserved to. And yet it changed my views on gaming forever (well, hopefully) Almost everyone would expect to not enjoy playing this game whatsoever.
The combat is horrendous, the stamina system is pointless and the voice acting is atrocious. At it's face value (and seeing other reviews/videos), this is a game that everyone would skip. The old /r/patientgamers Essential Games ListĪlright, so here's this game called Afterfall InSanity (I have the Extensed Edition).
